My poetics stems from a search for identity in a land, South Tyrol, where the past is not yet History and identity has ethnic connotations. I am a "lost", Italian-speaking South Tyrolean, in constant dialogue with the landscape, searching for roots that can define my/our need to belong.
The sense of foreignness drove me to interdisciplinary studies abroad. Painting opened the door to my inner geography; in England I studied film, bringing me closer to a more universal language, made of elements of the world.
Back in South Tyrol, continuing to dialogue with the land, I sought what defines roots and identity, and approached the materials of this land, opening myself to sculpture.
I salvage wood from old local barns, often hundreds of years old, and create my foundations with them. Through the ancient photographic technique of cyanotype, I bring to light hidden connections - even with my ancestors.
